10 Scariest Sci-Fi Movie Endings Ever

8. The Fly

In 1986, David Cronenberg remade the Vincent Price film, The Fly. Even though the original was a campy B-movie, Cronenberg's adaptation went full body-horror, creating one of the scariest films of all time.

The 1958 version of The Fly is nowhere near as frightening but it does have a much more disturbing ending. After a scientist called Andre Delambre activates his teleportation device, a fly zooms in, causing him and the insect to swap heads. Cursed with the head of a fly, Delambre feels his humanity gradually slip away and so, convinces his wife to kill him.

At the end of the movie, Delambre's brother, and a police officer discover the fly with Delambre's head has been caught on a web and is about to eaten by a spider. As they watch Delambre screeching for help, the cop crushes the web with a rock, putting the poor creature out of its misery. The SFX in this final shot isn't great but you can't help feeling queasy watching the terror in Delambre's eyes as he wails helplessly before being consumed by the arachnid.
