10 Scariest Short Horror Films You've Probably Never Seen
9. Night Swim (2014)
While most moviegoers will know Night Swim as the recent horror flick about a killer swimming pool starring Wyatt Russell and Kerry Condon, they may not be aware that this picture began life as a short film.
Created by Bryce McGuire and Rod Blackhurst - the pair behind the feature film - this 2014 short sees a woman (Megalyn Echikunwoke) go for a late-night swim in her swimming pool.
It doesn’t take long for some supernatural happenings to occur when she spots a mysterious figure watching her through the water’s surface. When she comes face-to-face with the uninvited visitor, the woman is pulled under the water by an unseen force and vanishes without a trace.
Although this short is barely three minutes in length, Bryce and McGuire succeed in making the most out of their unique premise. Rather than relying on a jump scare, the horror here lies in the eerie mystery left by both the swimmer’s ominous fate and the unknown source of the pool’s ghostly goings on.
Unfortunately, the feature-length version spoiled this sense of unease by over-explaining its central premise. Although the full movie failed to make swimming pools scary, the short will make viewers think twice about swimming alone at night.
