10 Scariest Technology Horror Movies

3. Pulse (2001)

As with a few other entries in this list, Pulse (also known as Kairo) explores the concept of the internet being a source of horror. However, this classic flick excels above the rest thanks to the supernatural premise, unique/cathartic scares and an atmosphere that is utterly dripping in anxiety.

The movie follows two parallel storylines, both of which deal with the idea of spirits that invade the human world through the internet. One is about a young woman called Michi, who investigates the disappearance of a co-worker, and the other focusses on Ryosuke, an economics student who is haunted by the horrible images on his computer.

During the early 2000s, the internet was still enough of a novelty to inspire fear. This manifested itself into a variety of anxieties, all of which are addressed here. The concept of safety online, strangers invading your life and the anonymity of the technology is all brought to the forefront in this flick, and paints a horrifying picture of something that is considered essential today.

Additionally, this movie has some of the best scares in the medium, thanks to the creatures' creativity. Instead of throwing hyperactive editing your way, the movie's slow and sombre tone shows spirits with uncanny faces and body movements. This causes organic scares due to the spirits' unfamiliarity.
