10 Sci-Fi Horror Movie Aliens That Make Space TERRIFYING
8. The Martians
The English writer HG Wells immortalised an all-encompassing vision of our closest neighbours in his 1897 sci-fi novel, The War of the Worlds, and they have since claimed fame in a host of films, TV series, radio dramas and even progressive rock albums (check out the succinctly titled Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of the War of the Worlds for the definitive soundtrack of the Martians).
While Steven Spielberg's 2005 adaptation of the classic leans away from some of the more terrifying elements in Wells' creation, there is nonetheless no way of denying the implicit horror of the aliens. Their elongated limbs have tentacular fingers, their triangular heads house gigantic black eyes and they heave their pink-grey bulk around on three legs.
Unhappy staying put on Elon Musk's number one holiday destination, the creatures invade Earth in nigh-indestructible tripod battle ships, bent on complete world domination. Not only that, they have plans to reverse-terraform the planet in order to support their life, using human blood and parts to fertilise their red vegetation.
If this is what's waiting just round the corner, perhaps we would be better off staying home.
