10 Sci-Fi Horror Movie Aliens That Make Space TERRIFYING

7. Blue Aliens

A classic from the twisted mind of John Carpenter (drawn from Ray Nelson's short story, Eight O'Clock in the Morning), the otherwise unnamed 'blue aliens' in They Live are a race of humanoid lifeforms at the head of Western society, manipulating the power structures of late twentieth century consumer-capitalism for their own gain. Sounds eerily familiar...

This ruling class of extraterrestrials have embedded themselves in the class-based US cultural structure, living financially and socially wealthy lives disguised as human beings. On the surface, we would never even know we had encountered one of these creatures, but underneath the facade, they have hideous blue skin, red bulging eyes and skull-like faces.

The grotesque appearance is not where the horror ends, unfortunately. The Blue Aliens use subliminal messages in media and marketing to keep themselves in power and the everyday, run of the mill homo sapien in line. This encourages people to spend money ad infinitum on things they don't need, keep pumping out children and, most importantly, accept the status quo.
