10 Sci-Fi Horror Movie Fates Worse Than Death
7. The Thing - Being Assimilated
Everyone knows The Thing - it’s a certified classic. For that reason it just had to feature on this list, despite almost being subbed out for the similar but clearly inferior ‘The Blob’.
First coming out in 1982, it was largely snubbed by audiences and critics. In the years since, however, the film has gained praise and acclaim for its special effects and inspired concept.
Basically, a group of scientists based in Antarctica encounter an alien life-form capable of assimilating any living matter. They discover a partially-uncovered alien ship which they estimate to have been buried for over a hundred thousand years.
The Thing is quite repulsive to look at, and in all its horrific glory it certainly offers up one horrible fate. Can you imagine seeing your friends and colleagues die one by one, either being assimilated or bleeding out from The Thing’s attacks, only to then become of the same ilk?
The sequences that show members of the group growing into their monstrous Thing forms are genuinely disgusting, and there’s nothing peaceful about a death that results in your body becoming whatever the hell that Thing is.
It’s an oldie but a goldie that will continue to haunt horror fans for years to come.
