10 Sci-Fi Horror Movie Fates Worse Than Death
6. The Colour Out Of Space - A Mother And Son Being Fused Into One Horrifying Monster
So this one takes mother-son bonding to the extreme.
After a meteor strikes the earth near a family’s new home, weird goings on associated with a colour barely describable in human terms start wreaking havoc. It messes with people’s minds, changes physical matter and - as is the topic of this entry - can meld living creatures together like clay lumps.
When mother and son Theresa and Jack are struck by the colour, they are fused together to create an increasingly aggressive, miserable, misshapen humanoid. Family patriarch Nathan cannot bring himself to put them out of their misery as he does with the family’s mutilated alpacas and so they are forced to live locked in the attic.
Now we can all enjoy a bit of family time every now and then but being forced to spend the rest of your life sharing not just a home and a room but a body with your mum must suck. It’s painful, confusing, claustrophobic and seemingly never-ending.
There are definitely worse people to be forcefully combined with but as it stands, regardless of your body-buddy this is a pretty awful fate.
Eventually Nathan does end up putting the pair out of their misery, but only after they have devolved into a monstrous rage that threatens the life of their daughter/sister Lavinia. In a way I can image you wouldn't want to live long enough in that condition to begin threatening those you love.
