10 Sci-Fi Movie Death Scenes That Came Out Of Nowhere

The Core is a seriously underappreciated sci-fi film. With its simple and effective narrative and some great performances from Aaron Eckhart, Hilary Swank, Stanley Tucci and Bruce Greenwood, The Core is the kind of typical sci-fi popcorn flick which is elevated by its acting, genuine intensity and high stakes.

Following a crew of astronauts, mechanics and scientists as they attempt to drill into the Earth's core and get it spinning again before the world ends, the imminent danger of the mission is shown when they crash in a field of large crystals which is slowly filling up with lava. Just as they get the ship free and moving again, Bob Iverson (Greenwood) is struck on the head by a falling crystal, killing him instantly before he falls into the lava.

The fact that he dies just as the team get a win and are all cheering and happy, makes Bob's death all the more shocking.
