10 Sci-Fi Movie Death Scenes That Came Out Of Nowhere

4. Rory Adams (Ryan Reynolds) - Life

When you see a name like Ryan Reynolds on the poster, you expect them to play a pretty major role in the plot. Not, as is the case with 2017's Life, see them killed off in the first half before the real action kicks off.

Well with Ryan Reynolds that's exactly what happened. Trapped in a room with the film's terrifying, growing alien, astronaut and engineer Rory Adams tries all he can to repel the bizarre creature. In retaliation for his efforts, Calvin (as the alien is named) forces its way into his mouth, devouring his insides and emerging more than twice the size it went in.

It's a grim moment, no doubt - and certainly surprising since it's f*cking RYAN REYNOLDS - but it does a pretty solid job of setting the tone for the rest of the film: no one is safe, and Calvin is not be messed with.

And if you have yet to see the film, jump on it.
