During their seriously intense journey, one of the group, Marlena (Lizzy Caplan) is bitten by a bizarre creature. Though she and the others manage to escape their adversaries and end up in a army controlled field hospital, Marlena suddenly begins to bleed from her eyes and mouth. As doctors and soldiers pull her away from her friends, it's clear she's not in a good way. That being said, it's safe to say no one was expecting her to explode once she was mostly off-camera.
It's the kind of unexpected, out of the blue death designed to shock and appal, and set a tone that never lets up for the rest of the movie. It definitely leaves an impression, that much is for certain...
