10 Sci-Fi Movie Mistakes You Can’t Unsee
3. Ready Player One - British Building Society In Columbus, Ohio?
Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One is an Easter egg hunter's dream.
Jurassic Park's T-Rex, MechaGodzilla and even the Iron Giant himself (to name but a few...) make appearances throughout the pop culture heavy flick. However, there is one cameo which most definitely was not intended to stick out as much as it did.
During a chase scene through the streets of Columbus, Ohio, in 2045, a building society by the name of Nationwide can be seen in the background of one of the shots. What makes this such an odd moment is the fact that Nationwide is an exclusively British company, so it definitely shouldn't be appearing in the middle of an American city.
Even if you wanted to argue that Nationwide could have expanded and opened up new branches overseas in the future, that wouldn't explain why the branding hadn't changed in nearly thirty years.
This was most likely a mistake only noticed after the scene was shot in Birmingham, England, and Spielberg probably decided against reshooting it in the hope that it would go unnoticed during the finished movie.
It didn't, but we can't stay mad at the guy who put King Kong and a DeLorean in the same movie.
