10 Sci-Fi Movie Mistakes You Can’t Unsee
2. Avatar - Jakes Human Hand Fits Neytiri's Face Perfectly
Towards the end of James Cameron's groundbreaking 3D experience Avatar, Jake Sully meets Neytiri in his human form for the first time in the movie. The lovers share a moment after Neytiri has successfully saved Jake's life, with the human placing his hand on the Na'vi's face once he realises what she's done.
It's... beautiful... only, it becomes a little jarring once you scratch the surface.
Jake is an fairly average sized bloke, so lets say he's around six feet tall. Neytiri on the the other hand is almost twice as big, with the Na'vi reportedly standing at around ten feet tall.
What's the issue here?
Well, when Jake puts his hand on Neytiri's face, it seems to be able to cup her gigantic cheek with ease. Yet, in reality, it would likely look a lot smaller. Although that would have admittedly made Jake's hand look like that of a child's in comparison to his lover's huge blue mitts.
Cameron was obviously juggling quite a few balls here trying to capture a scene between a live actor and a digitally rendered alien, but it's hard to unsee Jake's freakishly big hands once you've spied them out.
