10 Sci-Fi Movie Moments That Literally Stopped Movies

7. Hot Tub Time Machine - "Stares At Camera"

When a film goes out of its way to title itself "Hot Tube Time Machine", it's pretty much a given that a whole heap of ridiculousness is heading your way. But the combination of vomiting squirrels to smithereens and fights set against Enrique Inglesias masterpieces are merely the tip of the unexpected iceberg when it comes to this time-travelling riot.

On top of these often outrageous set-pieces and out-of-time shenanigans, director Steve Pink also found time to squeeze a cheeky beat into the flick that hilariously snapped audiences out of the moment in a way that still didn't undermine the barminess that had come before it.

Upon realising that they'd actually been thrown backwards into the '80s after dousing their hot tub in Chernobly energy drink, Nick remarks that the vessel they'd been sent back by "must be some sort of... hot tube time machine." Instead of rolling the credits there and then, though, Nick gives the camera an anything but subtle look, letting the audience know that he is very much in on the joke and offering them a chance to laugh at the absurdity of the situation and scene in general.
