In what is often looked at as the less-adored runt of the litter when it comes to all things Avengers ensemble chaos, Age of Ultron did still introduce us to a captivating, if not largely under-utilised, James Spader motion-capture performance as the sequel's big robotic bad.

However, sandwiched in-between a chilling introduction and the unfortunately overloaded final battle, our internet invading technological weapon of mass destruction takes a rather unwanted detour in the thick of an early speech to Wanda and Pietro Maximoff.

After already being established as a bot that possessed certain characteristics of its creator, Tony Stark, Joss Whedon opted to go a little too far in getting over the fact this sinister villain had a robotic funny bone. Awkwardly forgetting his line when looking for the word "children", any illusion that this formidable presence was a force to be reckoned with was instantly shattered by this odd character choice, effectively dragging much of the audience out of the movie in one ill-judged "comedic" beat.

The MCU in general has often been accused of shoe-horning unnecessary comedy into moments that just simply didn't need levity, and this Age of Ultron red light sits as perhaps the most jarring to date.
