Back to the joyous tool of putting a fist through that imaginary fourth wall we go now as Mel Brooks' side-splitting space spoof is put under the microscope for a moment.

From comparing Schwartz sizes to laughing in the face of light-speed with the use of "ludicrous-speed", there weren't many lines that the legendary director wasn't willing to cross when it came time to send up the likes of Star Wars and more. Probably the most iconic throwing out of the rules, though, came during the scene which saw Dark Helmet and Colonel Sandurz stop the spoof in its tracks to dig out a copy of Spaceballs. You know? The film that hadn't actually even reached its conclusion yet.

The pair then proceed to watch themselves in the "Now Now" in their quest to use the tape to find Vespa's current location.

It's frankly ludicrous, and completely tears up the concept of this tale being anything more than a surreal 90-minute tongue-in-cheek gag. But that's exactly what this film said it did on the tin, and that's why this fourth wall break has gone down in cinematic history as one of the finest of its kind.
