10 Sci-Fi Movie Remakes That Need To Happen
4. Outland
The late, great Sean Connery acts as the leading figure of this compelling sci-fi tale, and he carries the responsibility very well, as you would expect. This entire project has a great sense of reality that helps it to stay grounded, which is achieved through its excellent ties to themes of class divide and worker abuse.
The film follows a federal marshal named O'Niel who is stationed at a mining colony on Io, a moon of Jupiter. He uncovers a drug-smuggling conspiracy and ends up scapegoated and marked for murder, and must deal with this on his own. It tells an entertaining tale that has shades of the lone survivor and battling corrupt systems narrative combined.
Outland does have a compelling story but could benefit from an update to give the moon of Jupiter a greater sense of scale. In addition to this, the action sequences throughout could make fair use of a more modern approach to stunt work and choreography, in order to make them more exciting.
Finally, there are plenty of great acting choices who could take the lead in this film, such as Keanu Reeves or Michael Fassbender, but they would ultimately have a big shadow cast over them from the legendary Sir Sean Connery.
