10 Sci-Fi Movie Sequels Better Than The Original

6. Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan

While all of the sequels on this list followed up films that were well-received, The Wrath of Khan did not. Yes, the original Star Trek TV series was a gem of the 1960s but the first theatrical attempt to revive it did not go down too well. And after a creative overhaul, everyone was talking about Star Trek again - this time, for all the right reasons.

The Wrath of Khan took the story into darker and more mature territory but it also took its cues from the original series in a way that the first film never did. It accomplished all of that through placing a greater focus on its strong characters and offering up a much more coherent, compelling narrative.

It also brought back one of Captain Kirk's more memorable villains from the beloved TV series - and in doing so, it turned him into a legend - something that made the story that much more meaningful.

A massive commercial success that outdid its predecessor in every way imaginable, The Wrath of Khan is often credited as the movie that revived the Star Trek franchise and it isn't hard to see why.
