2. Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan
It was always going to be a close call as to which of the two sci-fi heavy hitters with the word "Star" in their name was going to top this list. Apologies to all the Trekkies out there, but your horse was just pipped at the post.
That is not to say that Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan isn't a great movie, because it is.
The sequel to the original Star Trek motion picture (and to the 1967 episode "Space Seed"), The Wrath of Khan is all about, well, Khan and his attempts to get his revenge of James T. Kirk and the crew of the enterprise.
The Wrath of Khan is widely accepted to be the best Star Trek film of all time. Not only does it have all the campy fun of the original series, but it also touches on some very poignant themes including aging and death.
As well as establishing Khan Noonien Singh as one of sci-fi's ultimate baddies, this movie also helped reinvigorate interest in the franchise and influence future filmmakers including Bryan Singer and J. J. Abrams.
