10 Sci-Fi Movies Audiences Walked Out Of
2. Tenet
The first half of Christopher Nolan’s stylish spy thriller Tenet played out like he was auditioning to helm a future Bond movie. However, as the twisty, time-travel plot unfurled, many audience members were left baffled. While some cinephiles revelled in the film’s complexity, others completely gave up trying to follow what was happening and simply walked out.
This is nothing new for Nolan, with several of his movies proving divisive. While some moviegoers champion him as a purveyor of intelligent cinema, others are left cold by his more cerebral efforts. Interstellar proved similarly divisive, as did perhaps his most celebrated picture, Inception.
While some fans happily sat through several screenings to fully wrap their heads around the twisted, dream within a dream narrative, not everyone could bring themselves to complete a single viewing.
Of course, there’s nothing wrong with making something intelligent and ambitious, and not everyone will like everything you do, but Tenet also had other, more frustrating problems. Sadly, the film featured a sound mix that left some viewers struggling to hear its dialogue during key scenes, which also led to people leaving early and unhappy.
