10 Sci-Fi Movies That Almost Had Way Better Endings

5. The Aliens Win - Edge Of Tomorrow

Where Edge of Tomorrow fell flat, perhaps, was in the ending department, which seemed overcomplicated to a fault. After figuring out how to destroy the alien threat, Cruise's Major. Bill Cage sacrifices himself but is once again splattered with alien blood and so is allowed to live as the timeline resets again. It's a happy ending, yes, but a little on the dull side. Of course, the writers didn't always plan to end Edge of Tomorrow on this note: they briefly flirted with the idea of a far more complex - albeit darker - ending that would have included a mean twist. Basically, it would have turned out that - prior to the last scenes - Cage would have lost his powers, before informing his squad not to kill any Alphas during their Louvre assault to kill the Omega as the day would just reset all over again. At this point, one of Cage's squad would have separated from the others and accidentally killed an Alpha. The day is reset, and the movie cuts to the first scene. When we hear the line from the beginning - - "You can bet they€™ll have a plan to kill us all" - the plane is shockingly hit and everyone dies, the aliens having known the humans were coming. It's a bleak way to end the film, sure, but it's also way more interesting, don't you think?
