10 Sci-Fi Movies That Get Better The Deeper You Go

1. Inception

Inception is a behemoth of a blockbuster, huge in scope and grand in ideas, which broke into mainstream consideration quite unlike many other sci-fi movies released recently. Even some of almost equal quality.

Part of that pull was the great story, which invented the idea of a dream heist against a backdrop of multi-layered, video game-like "levels" and an emotional core that added depth. And the genius of the script and story is that there's a lot of space around what the film actually says that can be filled by compelling theorising.

If you start to really dig into Inception, it becomes either an allegory for film-making itself or a complex exploration of the nature of reality. The more you look, the more you begin to doubt what's real and what isn't, to the extent that one of the most rewarding theories is that Cobb himself is the real target of the inception.

It's a rich, entertaining brain-twister of a movie, but the more you ask questions, the better it seems to get.
