10 Sci-Fi Movies That Pissed Audiences Off In The Final Scene

1. The Matrix Revolutions

The much-anticipated Matrix threequel concluded with a flabbergasting whimper, after Neo (Keanu Reeves) sacrificed his life to defeat Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving), the Matrix was rebooted and, uh, that was about it.

The rushed final scene takes place in a park, where The Oracle (Mary Alice) has a brief exchange with an embittered Architect (Helmut Bakaitis), and they uneasily agree upon a period of peace.

Sati (Tanveer K. Atwal) then asks the Oracle if they'll see Neo again, which she thinks they will, before the film - and the trilogy - abruptly ends on a shot of the beautiful sunrise Sati created for Neo.

One suspects the Wachowskis knew that they couldn't deliver a conclusion that satisfied everybody, so they basically committed to a non-ending instead, where so many questions - namely Neo's true fate - were left dangling ambiguously.

It was a head-scratching shoulder shrug of an ending that felt like the payoff to nothing, and to make matters worse, fans had to wait almost 20 years for a sequel.

A sequel which, sadly, didn't provide many satisfactory answers itself - though at least delivered a more palatable ending to the series.
