10 Sci-Fi Movies That Wasted Incredible Premises

8. Chernobyl Diaries

In Time
Warner Bros. Pictures

Premise: A group of tourists visit the abandoned Pripyat City for a tour but soon discover that they are not alone.

This was a great idea and it seemed like this film would be a lot better than most American found-footage horror films at first. Alas, it wasn't to be.

Chernobyl Diaries starts out with promise but the scares become increasingly repetitive, the plot gets more and more ridiculous and the lack of any actual tension ensures that the film winds up being pretty tedious in the end. It also leads up to a terrible final act.

You might be intrigued by the premise, but unfortunately this one isn't worth your time. If you want a great piece of drama about the Chernobyl Disaster, watch HBO's Chernobyl. It's awesome.
