10 Sci-Fi Movies Too Scary To Finish

Showcasing some of special effects artist Screaming Mad George’s most impressively ambitious prosthetic work, this demented sci-fi satire is easy to make it through for the first hour or so—and then proceedings takes a turn into firm “a list of films you’ll never finish” territory.

Following a privileged teenage protagonist as he uncovers a vast conspiracy implicating everyone in his family and their well-off inner circle, the flick slowly unveils the terrible truth of Beverly Hills’ rich residents and saying it’s not a pretty sight is akin to calling John Rambo a slightly tough cookie.

After a fairly standard and reasonably effective first act full of neon eighties fashions and some appropriately hammy angst from our teen heroes, the film takes a turn for the mind-blowing and stomach-emptying when the protagonist learns that the rich are, quite literally, a group of monstrous inhuman creatures who meld their nude bodies together as they consume other humans. The nightmarish “shunting” orgy sequence, wherein the entire community merges into a series of stringy limbs and faces protruding from unexpected areas needs to be seen to be believed—if you can make it that far.
