10 Sci-Fi Movies Where Everyone Dies

6. Dawn Of The Dead (2004)

Dawn Of The Dead
Universal Pictures

This remake of George Romero's 1978 genre classic marked Zack Snyder's first feature film, following a slew of music videos and Subaru commercials (one of which briefly features on a TV screen in the film). And his thirst for visual violence was already rife.

An expansive cast is whittled away through a series of impressive and ultra-violent set pieces as the initial survivors of a zombie apocalypse fight off some of the most brutal zombies cinema has seen - they can sprint! As is the way of most zombie flicks, the film's main characters are dispatched in creative fashion, including the shooting of a newly-zombied baby and suicide by exploding gas tank.

The ending of Snyder's Dawn of the Dead actually fakes audiences out, as the remaining characters - Ana, Kenneth, Nicole and Terry - seem to escape by boat, but camcorder footage playing through the credits reveals that the crew had to stop at a nearby island and were quickly swarmed by a ravenous zombie horde. Cheery stuff.

With the sequel imminent, maybe there will be a cameo from an unlikely survivor, but until then we're calling time on the entire cast.
