Triangle begins with a fairly straightforward slasher setup, as Jess (Melissa George) and friends are hunted down by a hooded killer on a mysterious abandoned liner out at sea.

However, as her friends are picked off one by one, Jess discovers it is her double doing the killing. Then time goes wonky and she's back where they started, but this time she's already on the boat, watching herself board. As the body count mounts, Jess discovers that she is stuck in a time loop, killing her friends repeatedly in an attempt to escape.

In this, Triangle shares some similarities with Nacho Vigalondo's superb indie time thriller Timecrimes. It also bears a curious resemblance to the X-Files episode Triangle, though whether this is a conscious influence or chilling coincidence remains to be seen.

So where does this leave us? Well, the main cast die over and over again, and Jess eventually makes it back to land, seeming finally to have escaped. But it turns out to be the morning that she left and, attempting to right her wrongs and return to normality, Jess kills the version of herself before she ever boards the boat. So perhaps the original Jess was dead before the film even began. Perhaps.
