A year before Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) was finally allowed to convey some on-screen personality in Avengers: Age of Ultron, he was originally written to have a small but significant role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

With Cap (Chris Evans) on the run and S.H.I.E.L.D. attempting to track him down, Hawkeye was ordered to try and subdue Cap, tracking him through Washington D.C. and finally confronting him at a ravine on the city's outskirts.

Hawkeye was to fire arrows at Cap, who would take him down, at which point Clint reveals his true intentions, quietly informing Cap that he's wearing a tracker, and suggesting he punch him in the face to make their "fight" look real.

But sadly, pesky scheduling issues prevented Renner from making an appearance, and so the scene was never shot. Joe Russo seems pretty cool about it, though, saying, "I think we may have streamlined the movie and made it a little bit more propulsive."
