10 Scumbag Horror Movie Protagonists We STILL Rooted For
9. Seth Gecko - From Dusk Till Dawn
The bonus of casting George Clooney in your movie as a villain is that he can't help but be a damn charming bastard even when he's busy murdering people and taking others hostage.
In Robert Rodriguez's From Dusk Till Dawn, Seth Gecko (Clooney) and his brother Richie (Quentin Tarantino) are a pair of fugitive bank robbers who leave a pile of bodies in their wake as they try to make their way across the Mexican border.
We should absolutely despise both Gecko Bros., then, but Seth has such swagger, and seems positively angelic compared to his utterly unhinged sibling Richie, that he's tough not to like regardless.
It doesn't help that the Geckos and the family they've taken hostage in order to sneak across the border are assailed by a pack of vampires mid-way through the movie, at which point the very notion of villainy is flipped on its head.
When survival against blood-thirsty creatures is the order of the day, Seth suddenly doesn't seem like such a bad guy to have on your side.
That he progressively forms an uneasy bond with one of his hostages, Kate (Juliette Lewis) - and that they end up the only two survivors of the whole shebang - doesn't hurt either.
