10 Secret Subplots You Didn’t Know Were Cut From Popular Movies

8. Another Touching Love Story - Love Actually (2003)

This is a heartbreaker. Love Actually is a much-loved Christmas rom-com, featuring touching love stories starring the likes of Emma Thompson, Liam Neeson, Keira Knightley and Colin Firth, but whilst it remains a solid feel-good film with some great tear-jerking moments, there is one subplot that was cut which remains the film's most affecting.

The subplot in question revolves around the school headmistress (Anne Reid) and her relationship with her terminally ill partner (Frances de la Tour). After telling off the son of Karen (Thompson), the teacher goes home and the couple talk about their differing tastes in sausages and discuss their day.

Later, the pair cuddle up at night, only for it to be revealed soon after that the headmistress' partner passed away from her illness.

It's a sweet little story which director Richard Curtis has said he was "very sorry" for cutting, and adds another emotional story to a film bursting with them. It was cut to shorten the film's runtime and because Curtis thought it disjointed the narrative.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
