Depending on who you ask, Prometheus either did too much or not enough in regards to the overall plot of the Alien franchise.

Regardless of whether you were a fan of the movie or not, everyone will be glad to hear that this particular subplot got the axe.

According to original drafts of the film's script, Prometheus would have featured a subplot in which it's revealed that Jesus (you read that right), was an Engineer, sent to Earth to save the people from their sins. Jesus' crucifixion would have then been the reason for the Engineers' plot to destroy Earth for their violent ways.

Ridley Scott and screenwriter Damon Lindelof have both gone on record to say that the story was cut because they knew it would receive backlash from the religious community. Plus, Scott said the whole thing was "a little too on the nose" and wouldn't fully have fit in with the tone of the film.

Luckily, the sequence wasn't even shot, so there's a silver lining to it all.
