10 Seemingly Great Films That Unravelled On A Second Viewing

1. Gravity

Oh, no, right? Gravity? The Gravity? As in, that movie that everyone is in love with right now - the movie that kind of actually blew us away when we saw it in the cinema? Yes, that's the one. So, okay, let's get this out the way: Gravity is a good movie. In a lot of ways, it's a great one. But how many of have had time to actually go back for seconds? Not because we don't want to, but because it's not time yet - we've only just seen it, after all: let the damn thing sink it. Unfortunately, the bad news is that - viewed outside of its cinema context - it's nowhere near as good. Which, in a way, seems like a somewhat redundant thing to say: aren't all movies technically "better" when viewed on the big screen? Perhaps, but watching Gravity for a second time exposes many of its narrative flaws, whereas other movies don't really suffer in the same way. So, yes, this visually stunning - but otherwise light - film feels far less impressive on a second viewing, the tension and claustrophobia noticeably artificial. Is it one of those movies that, ultimately, works better as a one-time experience? Watching it twice, it's hard to feeling anything but regret. Like this list? Agree or disagree with the choices?
