10 Sequels That Were Nothing Like The First Movie
1. Batman & Robin
The Original:
Completely wiping away the memory of Adam West's take on the character, Tim Burton's dark and brooding Batman dragged the Dark Knight into the modern era, revolutionizing the way blockbuster movies were marketed and merchandised forever and reinventing the Caped Crusader for a new generation of fans.
The Sequel:
It seems unbelievable that Batman & Robin even exists in the same continuity as Burton's original, given how incredibly different they are. Gone are the Gothic cityscapes, tortured characters and sense of foreboding that permeated Batman and Batman Returns, replaced by a neon and nipples extravaganza designed exclusively to sell toys to kids.
The Dark Knight certainly wasn't dark anymore, replaced by a series of fluorescent costumes and crap dialogue that reached a head with Arnold Schwarzenegger's painful series of Mr. Freeze-related puns. George Clooney still apologizes for it to this day, and no wonder; Batman had come full circle and returned to the high-camp of the 1960's TV show, which was about as far away from the 1989 original as you could possibly get.
