Despite getting a hammering from critics for being little more than a Halloween cash-in and a vehicle for Adam Sandler to do a silly voice, Hotel Transylvania's impressive box office takings of $358 million meant that a sequel was inevitable. After convincing director Genndy Tartakovsky that it would be possible to make this and Popeye in the same year, Sandler himself has taken up a number of writing duties with Robert Smigel. Selena Gomez is back as the count's daughter, and Mel Brooks, David Spade, and Steve Bushemi all find themselves with parts to play as the story of Dracula's five star hideaway for world-weary monsters arrives on September 25th. Where the first film focused on the relationship between Dracula and his quickly maturing daughter, this time the roles are reversed somewhat as his father Vlad comes to the hotel. Expect a new twist on the undead parent/child angle with another collection of memorable musical numbers.
