8. There Were Planned Sequels To Batman And Robin
The time between Batman and Robin and Batman Begins involved Warner Bros. desperately trying to decide what to do with their now tainted franchise. Apart from Year One, there were also a number of planned sequels to Batman and Robin that crashed and burned during the development stage.
One of the most fleshed out ideas was Batman Unchained. The film would have seen the Dark Knight locked up in Arkham Asylum by the Scarecrow, who would use his fear gas to try and drive him insane.
The film would also have featured cameos from Joker and Penguin as hallucinations and the real villain of the story would turn out to be Harley Quinn, who would have been Joker's daughter out for revenge.
Casting choices for Scarecrow included real-life comic character Nicolas Cage and Coolio (explaining his Batman and Robin cameo). Courtney Love and Madonna were both rumoured for Harley Quinn.
George Clooney's comments about never wanting to play Batman again killed that project though and it was replaced by the awfully titled DarKnight, which would have featured Jeff Goldblum and Christopher Lloyd as Scarecrow and Man-Bat.
There were also plans for a solo Nightwing movie starring Chris O'Donnell, but both projects were cancelled once the overwhelmingly negative reviews for Batman and Robin came in.
