10 Shocking (But Believable) Theories About Batman V Superman
8. Alfred Is An Older Bruce Wayne
Okay, so this is a totally crazy theory, but when you actually think about it in detail, it's hard to deny that it is - at least - somewhat interesting. This theory, then, purports that Alfred Pennyworth (that is, Jeremy Irons) is actually Bruce Wayne, and that Ben Affleck is playing his successor - a former Robin, perhaps, who takes over from "Alfred" when he's too old. The evidence supporting this wild theory stems from the fact that Batman V Superman is supposedly set in a world in which Commissioner Gordon is dead, having been presumably killed by the Joker. But what if Gordon just died of old age, and "Alfred" (or Bruce Wayne) is now an old Batman passing on his wisdom, equipment and skills to a younger man? After all, Jeremy Irons did say in an interview that his incarnation of Alfred would be "more hands-on perhaps than just a butler," suggesting some prior fighting experience. It's a wacky theory, yes, and there are lots of issues with it overall. Still, it's not entirely implausible - especially given the timeline, the ages of the characters and Irons' comment.
