10 Shocking Horror Movies Where THIS Happened

Director Ti West's passion for retro horror courses through this film. The 1980s 'Satanic Panic' phenomenon in the US is the subject and while it's easy to assume that we're in John Carpenter's play pen, the film's frankly bat sh*t crazy second act reveals the faces of Steven King and Rob Zombie rising from the sandbox instead.

Student Samantha has just found some new digs, the problem is she needs some cash and fast. When she replies to a babysitting job advert, her friend warns her of the danger - after all, you never know what kind of weirdos are out there, especially when Tom Noonan's the employer.

Sam is left alone in the house, soon to be $400 richer. All she has to do is watch TV for a few hours but her curiosity (and a drugged pizza) soon get the better of her. We know it's not going to go well for her but when she wakes up tied to a pentagram symbol, surrounded by Noonan and family in hooded robes, the film immediately shifts from babysitter slasher to demonic mindf*ck nightmare.

The casting of Noonan and genre regular Dee Wallace are a coup d'état of considerable advantage for West; the presence of the Tooth Fairy plus the star of The Howling turn an homage into a modern cult classic. The Satanic element (replete with weird creature/sibling from hell) and the fate of Sam are too good to spoil here - if you love the genre, do not miss this movie.
