10 Shocking Horror Movies Where THIS Happened

8. The Possessed Nurse - The Exorcist III (1990)

Suspiria 2018
Morgan Creek

Studio interference and a lack of public appetite tanked The Exorcist 3, the TRUE sequel to The Exorcist, but take a closer look and you'll find a gripping psychological thriller with a little gory humour too...

Bill Kinderman knows the Gemini Killer is dead - he sent him to the electric chair. However, a series of vicious murders bear the exact same MO, leading him to Patient X, a man who claims he is the Gemini. Not only is he in a maximum security psychiatric ward, he looks identical to Damien Karras, the priest who died during the Regan McNeil exorcism 15 years previously, so what the hell is going on?

Well, Pazuzu (the demon from the original film) is leaping from body to body and committing the murders, and what better place to hide than the bodies of catatonic psychiatric patients?

Later in the flick, Kinderman races home to his family after the demon issues "a clear invitation to the dance." The desperate cop throws himself into the house just in time to see a possessed octogenarian nurse brandish a pair of foot long surgical shears and attempt to remove his daughter's head, unsuccessfully (she's pulled from harm in the nick of time).

It's a bold, albeit hilarious moment of graphic horror with some crazy camera effects, probably necessary to speed up the shot to look more dangerous than the insurance policies would allow for, but nonetheless one more worthy of the name 'Exorcist' than any other sequel so far.
