The Inbetweeners Movie was allegedly meant to be an epilogue to the hit Channel 4 sitcom, but instead felt like a regular episode stretched to feature length so the cast could have a all-expenses paid trip to Malia. When a sequel was announced it appeared like writers Damon Beesley and Iain Morris had given up the ghost of creative integrity, riding the box office wave of the first film. Thankfully that isn't the case; The Inbetweeners 2 properly feels like a big screen outing for Will, Simon, Jay and Neil. Everything's been improved. The story's more thought out than the previous outing's "they get drunk", with each character having some emotional experience to go through (except for the ever-dense Neil) that, gasp, pushes them closer to maturity. And the sharp observations of teen angst, particularly this time on spiritual backpackers, aren't as heavy handed as you'd expect from the series, giving a more rounded realism to their inclusion. And for a film that features someone feeding a dolphin burgers and chicken that's saying something. One of the strongest elements of both the series and the first movie was Greg Davies' Head of Sixth Form Mr Gilbert. Last seen riding a quadbike down the Malia strip, quite how he'd fit into a film set on the other side of the world from Rudge Park Comprehensive was unsure, prompting the question of whether Davies would cameo at all. Fans needn't have worried; the final scene reveals the man Will's Mum has been having over to stay is none other than her son's former teacher. Hilarious.
