10 Shocking Movie Deaths That Came Out Of NOWHERE

1. Marvin - Pulp Fiction

Pulp Fiction Marvin
Miramax

Quentin Tarantino loves killing characters off in surprising ways and though he's done this many times over the years, he's never topped this incredible scene from his beloved classic Pup Fiction.

After completing a job, Vincent Vega and Jules Winfield (John Travolta and Samuel L Jackson in their most iconic parts) are driving away with their informant, Marvin (legendary voice actor Phil LaMarr). While the hitmen debate their inexplicable survival after being shot at, Vincent asks Marvin what his opinion on it is while, stupidly, still holding his gun... and he accidentally shoots Marvin in the face.

One second Vincent is talking, then there's a huge bang, it cuts to an exterior shot of blood exploding all over the car interior and just like that, Marvin is dead and the two men are now driving down a busy street covered in blood. It's such a startling, out-of-nowhere moment that no-one will have seen coming, and viewers will be just as shocked as Vincent and Jules are.

It doesn't necessarily make complete sense - why would an experienced hitman be holding his gun like that? - but it's nigh-on impossible to give a toss. This scene is subversive perfection that's also one of the most brilliant bits of dark comedy ever, a death scene that's as blackly hilarious as it is gloriously unexpected.
