10 Shocking Movie Scenes Directors Later Regretted

5. Killer Santa – Silent Night, Deadly Night

It wasn’t a single shocking scene that Charles Sellier regretted about directing Silent Night, Deadly Night; it was the whole concept. In an audio interview for the film he confirmed he was a gun for hire and made it as a favour to the producers, but being a devout Christian he was uncomfortable with the gore – often leaving them to the second unit director to shoot – and he didn’t like the idea of a killer Santa.

He liked it even less when the film proved to be massively controversial, with groups protesting the film for its marketing – which featured Santa claiming down a chimney with an axe – and parents finding the concept sick.

The film was still a hit but Sellier felt so bad about the outrage it caused he refused to direct the sequel and distanced himself from it afterwards, mainly focusing on Christian films from that point on.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
