Throughout his time at the helm of the USS Enterprise, Captain James T Kirk was a composed, enigmatic and assured character, leaving audiences always with a sense of relief knowing that he was around. That all changes however when he goes up against Khan in the second ever Star Trek motion picture.

On the hunt for revenge having been left for dead by Kirk, Khan is a legendary character in the world of Star Trek. He is immensely intelligent, daring and more than willing to wipe out entire starships to get to what he wants. His plan in The Wrath of Khan revolves around stealing the legendary Genesis Device, a technology that is able to manipulate dead matter into life again.

Despite his plan of mind controlling the likes of Chekov using some seriously gross slug-like creatures failing, Khan is able to steal away the movie's crucial device and leave Kirk stranded, taunting him from his ship in the process. In what has to be one of the only moments we see Kirk's shields lowered and his full range of emotions desperately on show, the Enterprise's captain calls his arch-enemy a bloodsucker and well and truly loses it by screaming his name out to space.
