10 Shocking Times Movie Heroes Completely Lost Control

7. Harvey Dent - The Dark Knight

Kingsman Secret Service
Warner Bros.

There is an argument to suggest that, prior to his eventual transformation into Two-Face, Harvey Dent is the real hero of The Dark Knight. Brave, committed and smart, he shares the same kinds of morals as Batman, only he wins the respect of both Gotham and the audience by carrying it all so publicly in a city riddled with corruption.

However, he's also conveyed as being something of cold man. He rarely smiles, cracks a joke or makes light of a situation, instead dealing with a lot of absolutes and putting himself in the shop window for a little bit of Joker manipulation.

Abducted and put in Joker's game with Rachel, the signs of Harvey's impending lack of control were already on the rise, however they get catapulted front and centre once Batman saves him and the police fail to rescue Rachel.

Rooted on by the Clown Prince of Crime, Harvey becomes the iconic villain of Two-Face for the final third of the film, with his cold series of absolutes turning into fierce snarls and brutal outbursts of violence. It makes for a tragic arc for a noble character, however his breakdown in the film's climax really go a long way in suggesting most of his final act were a response to losing his sense of control, one of the things he absolutely lives for normally.
