10 Shocking Ways Actors Were Cast That You Didn't Know About

7. Charlie Hunnam Flirts His Way Into The Business - Byker Grove

Far from simply being an eye-catching chap picked up off the street with next to no interest in ever stepping into the acting world, Charlie Hunnam was actually in the thick of film school when he managed to score his big break into the business.

Instead of doing so via the traditional route of being put up for a role by his agent or a friend within the industry, however, Hunnam unexpectedly took matters into his own hands long before he was spearheading the likes of Sons of Anarchy and The Gentlemen.

As the Geordie sensation would reveal on The Graham Norton Show in 2017, he was first discovered during a stint of last-minute Christmas Eve shopping in his local JD Sports. A touch merry thanks to a few beverages beforehand, Hunnam caught the eye of a lady in the store, blew her a kiss, and gave her a cheeky wink for good measure.

Said woman actually turned out to be the casting director for popular British TV series Byker Grove who thought the confident lad was "quite lovely." And as Hunnam would recall (whilst squirming):

"She invited me in, I did an audition and they gave me a part, which I haven't seen since I did it — which was 20 years ago."
