10 Sh*tty Sequels That Could Be Heading Our Way

4. Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

With shooting practically in the can, the fifth swashbuckling movie Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is set for release on July 7, 2017. Itʼll see franchise star Johnny Depp return as Captain Jack Sparrow for another unneeded adventure. The first two movies played out fairly well being that they were actually quite enjoyable and fun films. Nevertheless, like most franchises, the third and fourth releases saw a considerable decline in entertainment value, with them becoming marathon-like watches. The four movies made money and sold boat loads of merchandise though, so of course Disney still want to chuck another chapter down our throats. The only hope this movie has of being worthwhile is the introduction of new directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg, who both made the Oscar-nominated Kon-Tiki. Itʼs wishful thinking to believe a franchise five movies into existence could improve upon its declining product quality, but hopefully a fresh approach from these two acclaimed filmmakers may give us some optimism. I doubt it.

Martin Scorsese fanboy; Can prove in 140-characters why Michael Bay is a hack, and I enjoy a bit of Gridiron at the weekends.
