Star Wars is George Lucas' baby. Before Star Wars began production, Lucas shopped his idea to various studios, none of which showed much interest. Lucas persisted, knowing that he had something special on his hands. Finally, 20th Century Fox took a gamble on Lucas' bizarre idea. The film went on to achieve a level of success and cultural influence that is staggering. Lucas fictional world permeated the zeitgeist to such an extent we can still observe traces of Star Wars DNA in the blockbuster films of today. Fans might take issue with some of Lucass creative decisions, but it was Lucas story to tell and he did so over the course of six massively successful films. Now that Lucas story has run its course, he has graciously stepped aside so other filmmakers can take up the Star Wars mantle. Lucas developed the outline for Episode 7s story and remains attached to the project as a creative consultant to ensure continuity with the previous films. It will be the same Star Wars fans love, but we will now have a chance for fresh talent to reinvigorate the franchise. This fresh perspective could work wonders. Hopefully, Episode 7 brings back the awe and wonder audiences felt when they first sat down to watch Star Wars in 1977. If what weve seen so far is any indication, the force will be strong with Episode 7.
