10 Signs Warner Bros. Have No Clue About Batman V Superman
4. Hans Zimmer's Score (Again)
Hans Zimmer is a great composer and, Michael Giacchino aside, the most exciting musician working in film today. There's no refuting that point and that's not what this entry is trying to do. His soundtrack for Inception is one of the most brilliant film scores in recent memory, meticulously constructed to mirror the film (that unforgettable bwang is a slowed down note from Edith Piaf's Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien). He's got such an ear for a tune that his score for The Dark Knight Trilogy managed to dispel memories of Danny Elfman's previous Batman effort. And that's the real issue here. Man Of Steel was strongly linked to The Dark Knight Trilogy through Christopher Nolan's involvement and thus Zimmer followed, which has put him in an awkward position with the sequel - he now has to write a new, totally distinct theme for the Dark Knight. There was initial umming and ahhing on Zimmer's part as to whether he'd return, and while he ultimately has, it sounds like he needs help. Tom Holkenborg, otherwise known as Junkie XL, who collaborated with Zimmer on The Dark Knight Rises, will be tackling Batman's themes, with the returner sticking to the Superman side of things. While that avoids the danger of repeating himself, it makes his involvement rather perfunctory - Warner Bros. want Zimmer involved just so they can say they have Zimmer involved.
