The dust has settled on Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and by all accounts it seems to have been another rousing success; the films continued to evolve and develop the original line-up of superheroes, as well as introducing some new ones. The movies were better received, both critically and financially, than what came before and their gambles on "risky" projects Guardians Of The Galaxy and Ant-Man paid off in full. This is good news for Marvel - there was a lot of pressure on them from the beginning. They had to try and match - or surpass - the success of Phase One as well as continuing to break new blockbuster ground. Cynics could smell blood in the water, but against all odds they managed break their own records. However, while the new batch of films might have improved on the old ones, there were still plenty of problems. One issue is that Marvel leans too heavily on a pre-set formula, which has allowed some bad habits to form, such as storytelling problems and overuse of CGI. The annoying thing is that many of these issues were avoidable. In fact, with just a few tweaks here and there, Phase Two could have gone from something great to something awesome.
