10 Slasher Horror Movie Openings That Get Worse The More You Think About It

5. Capitalism Rules - Child's Play 2

Black Christmas 2006 Constance Lenz
Universal Pictures

While a lot of the entries on this list feature grim things happening to certain characters, Child's Play 2 makes it to this list for how its opening is one based on consumerism and capitalism.

The opening here sees the 'dead' Chucky stripped down and reconstructed by the Play Pals organisation which owns the Good Guy dolls product. You see, Play Pals want to show that there was nothing wrong with Chucky, and thus fixing the busted-up doll is deemed a PR masterstroke.

Obviously, the repair of Chucky inadvertently leads to the resurrection of the Charles Lee Ray spirit within the vessel, and Child's Play 2 is then off to the races.

Upon taking a deeper look at this sequel's opening, there's a slice of social commentary about fat cat companies doing whatever they can to sell their image (and products) to the masses. Regardless of the harm their product may have caused, the only thing that matters is rehabbing the public perception and enticing youngsters to buy your wares.

Countless lives have been lost? Ah, who cares - it's all about making a few bucks.
