How could you not like a movie with a title like New Year's Evil? With every other holiday being turned into a slasher movie, New Year's Eve was the next one up, and the result is an okay flick that showed a lot of unrealized franchise potential.

The film centers around a woman, Blaze, who's hosting a New Year's Eve countdown on a radio station. She starts receiving phone calls from a man who warns that when it strikes midnight in each time zone, he'll kill a new person, and she'll be the last to die. The guy calls himself Evil just in case it was unclear if he's a bad dude.

A few things set this one apart from your typical slasher. For one, there's the whole radio element, and Evil actually records audio of his kills which he plays back for Blaze over the phone. The filmmakers also don't bother to make the killer any sort of mystery. You see the guy's face the entire time, and he only wears a mask at the very end. Evil unceremoniously kills himself in the last scene, but another character picks up his mask and puts it on, implying he'll take over in a sequel which was never made. Just for the creepiness of the mask alone, it's hard not to want some sort of followup.
