3. 1968 390 CID V8 Ford Mustang - Bullitt
How can you not look at this image and think of the sheer badassery of Bullitt? Above all else, it is an instant reminder of how excellent the film is, topped by a 10-minute car chase sequence, as Detective Bullitt (McQueen) races his Mustang like a pro around the streets of San Francisco in what is without question one of the most iconic car chases in the history of the medium. Though it's slightly upsetting to see the car get torn up so much, it's proof that, like the actor driving it, the Ford Mustang is not to be trifled with; it can survive a lot of punishment, and is a dependable vehicle you can rely on. One can never underestimate the appeal of some good, old fashioned American muscle, and this car delivers it in spades. It is a perfect example of a car and its driver being perfectly matched; there never has and likely never will be another like it (or him).
